Welcome to GEEKLAW
GEEKLAW was founded in 2013 by students at the law school. Officially known as the Information Technology Law Society, GEEKLAW is affiliated with the University of Leicester Student Union.
GEEKLAW addresses the challenges facing the modern economy by building on the education already offered to students. The pace of technological development in the world is unprecedented, meaning modern professionals will need not only a strong understanding of the law as it currently stands but also a thorough understanding of how technology will shape the legal profession in the years to come. Our mission is to incorporate Information and Communication Technology into students’ academic life, preparing them for an entry into the economy.
GEEKLAW is contemporary and unique because it bridges the gap between information technology and the law. The society addresses topics that students in law will benefit from learning, especially topics that are relevant in modern days such as, the use of Social Media, Cyber Security, and how to protect yourself from the use of technology and the web. There are many laws that govern how individuals interact with technology and it is crucial for students to learn about the law in a world that is filled with the constantly changing era of technology. With the relationship of law and technology becoming more intertwined, there is a need for dynamic innovation and creativity to tackle the challenges of a modern economy. This is what GEEKLAW aims to achieve for its students.
