Academic Officer

The incumbent will gather and communicate member issues and concerns regarding academic matters (Lectures, Tutorials, Coursework Feedback, etc.,) to law school faculty; represent the society at faculty and academic events. The incumbent will work to ensure the fulfillment of GeekLaw’s mission and goals by taking initiative, and providing academic vision and leadership. The incumbent will collaborate with the leads of the following functions on various organizational policies and programs: Finance, Human Resources, General Counsel, Strategic Alliances, Operations, Networking, Competitions, Communications and Information Technology; reports to the General Counsel and Secretary General or Finance Vice President & Treasure.

Event Coordinators (ECS) – Multiple Positions

The incumbent will assist with the planning and hosting of assigned GEEKLAW Events: lectures, seminars, workshops and product demonstrations. The incumbent will assist with identifying suitable local hotels for invited event participants; select and secure on-campus facilities for events; coordinate food and refreshments for events; coordinate transportation, and presentation arrangements. To ensure adequate support for assigned events and the spreading of the workload, the incumbent can select a group of Associate Coordinators, to carry out various tasks. Vice President, HR & Social Secretary (HRVP) – One Position

The incumbent will develop and administer human resources policies and procedures that cover all functional areas of GEEKLAW. The Incumbent will collect and analyze HR data, maintain organizational directories (membership roll, phone numbers, email addresses, membership fees, etc.) and make recommendations to the leadership team on various human resources matters. The incumbent will process paperwork for functional area according to established procedures and Student Union policies. The incumbent will develop and implement various recognition programs and social events for the membership. The incumbent should possess knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within this field. To ensure adequate support and the spreading of the workload, the incumbent can select a group of Human Resource Associates to carry out various tasks. Vice President, Operations (Events/Conferences) (OVP) – One Position

The incumbent will direct GEEKLAW’s program and events through the management of Event Coordinators. The incumbent will collaborate with the Chief Marketing Officer on the execution and implementation of all GEEKLAW initiatives and programs. The incumbent will collaborate with the Vice President of Human Resources on the development of various membership initiatives, policies and programs; including recognition programs and events. Vice President, Networking (NVP) – One Position

This incumbent is the Chief Marketing Officer for the organization. The incumbent in collaboration with the GEEKLAW’s leadership will develop and implement sponsors network and database, fundraising targets, public awareness and branding strategies for the organization. The incumbent will organize GEEKLAW’s social media strategy; including marketing plans that leverage social media outlets. The incumbent will be responsible for development and maintenance of online content that attracts attention, generates interest, and is easily shared with social networks. The incumbent will establish relationships with bloggers and other members of the online community. The incumbent will work with the Chief Public Relations Officer and Chief Information Officer on the development of tools that allow for easy integration with a social network. The incumbent should possess existing knowledge, and experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The incumbent will help maintain a favorable public image for the organization. The Strategic Alliances Vice President is responsible for developing and maintaining academic, business and Non-Government Organization affiliations and alliances. The incumbent will help recruit academics, jurists, legal practitioners and business leaders to serve as advisors and mentors to members of the Steering Committee and to the entire organization. Vice President, Competitions (CVP) – One Position

The incumbent will coordinate the development, publication and distribution of GEEKLAW Electronic Evidence (Moot) Calendar; serve as GEEKLAW’s direct liaison for any competition inquiries; coordinate officials assignments to all national and international events; compiles official reports pertaining to national and international sanctioned events; coordinates GEEKLAW competition rules changes as approved by the leadership team; develops and maintains an effective communication system between GEEKLAW, the University of Leicester Law Society and other law societies regarding national and international calendar activities; gathers and analyzes participation numbers and results from national and international calendar events. The incumbent will help oversee the execution of competition plan action items; assists with the maintenance of sponsor relations; coordinates and supports identified fundraising activities and VIP events, as appropriate. President – One Position

The incumbent will plan and direct all strategies, policies, objectives, and initiatives for GEEKLAW. The incumbent is the Chief Strategist for the organization. The incumbent will demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures; and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks; lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The incumbent will collaborate with the leads of the following functions on various organizational policies and programs: Finance, General Counsel, Human Resources, Operations, Networking and Communications.

 

Executive Vice President – One Position

The incumbent will and assist the President of GEEKLAW in overseeing all areas and functions of the organization. The incumbent is the Chief Operating Officer for the organization. The incumbent will directly manage all senior-level managers (Vice Presidents) on the development and implementation of organizational strategies and programs. The incumbent should be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures; and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks; lead and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The incumbent will collaborate with the leads of the following functions on various organizational policies and programs: Finance, Human Resources, General Counsel, Operations, Strategic Alliances, Networking and Communications; reports to the President.

 

General Counsel & Secretary – One Position

The incumbent is the Chief Legal Officer for the organization. The incumbent will plan and direct all aspects of GEEKLAW’s legal affairs; especially liaison with the Student Union on relevant policies, procedures and contract matters. The incumbent will prepare Steering Committee meeting agendas, take minutes, and assist with the annual election of Officers, coordinate and communicate annual general meetings, and ensure the membership directory is current and complete. To ensure adequate support and the spreading of the workload, the incumbent can select a group of Legal Associates to carry out various tasks. The incumbent will collaborate with the leads of the following functions on various organizational policies and programs: Finance, Human Resources, Strategic Alliances, Operations, Networking, Competitions, Strategic Alliances and Communications; reports to the President and Executive Vice President

 

Vice President, Finance & Treasurer – One Position

The incumbent will assist with the compilation of data used to prepare budgets and to justify funding requests. The incumbent will coordinate appropriations for the various GEEKLAW departments, teams and specific programs while balancing the need for emergency funds. The incumbent will review operating budgets periodically to analyze trends affecting budget needs; and produce monthly expenditure reports. Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures is required; and reliance on previous experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. To ensure adequate support for assigned events and the spreading of the workload, the incumbent can select a group of Finance Coordinators, to carry out various tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
