Ms Emma Robertson
I am a Canadian law student in the Senior Status LL.B program and I have an avid interest in how the law and technology fields intersect. I attended a talk with Constance L Sugiyama C.M., J.D., LL.D early last fall, considered among Canada’s Top 100 Most Influential Women. Ms. Sugiyama practiced as a corporate lawyer in Toronto, Canada for the duration of her career, and during the talk emphasized the future need in the legal field for lawyers with some background knowledge in technology. Though I have always found this sector fascinating, Ms. Sugiyama’s talk stoked my interest in converging my career choice in the legal field with my interest in technology, and the GEEKLAW society has afforded me an opportunity to explore this field even further. As a GEEKLAW member this past year, I thoroughly enjoyed events including the Bitcoin Conference, the Online Dispute Resolution Conference and the Identity Theft on the Dark Web Conference. For law students and students of other disciplines alike, GEEKLAW provides a friendly forum that enhances attendees’ knowledge of the various ways the technological and legal fields are evolving in tandem. As your Executive Vice-President, I look forward to enhancing my knowledge of these fields in the coming year, while striving to ensure GEEKLAW participants have a great experience!
